My name is Matthew J. Canaday, but most people call me Matteo. Born in Southern California, I was raised in Barcelona, Spain, and eventually moved to the Tulalip Indian Reservation just north of Seattle, Washington, where I spent the majority of my adult life enjoying reservation life and all the nature that it had to offer.
How did I get into the coffee business? Good question.
On a nice sunny day in Lahaina Maui, while at Maui Grown Coffee Co., I was having a delightful latte with my brother-in-law when he suggested I take my passion for coffee, farming and Hawaii to an entrepreneurial level. And that’s how my journey as a farmer-entrepreneur began.
I love coffee. I love growing it. I love roasting it. I love sharing it with others. I love being a farmer here on the Big Island of Hawaii. And honestly, I’ve never met an island I didn’t like.
Whenever you purchase an Aloha Farms Café product, you support sustainable efforts in coffee cultivation and macadamia nut forestry, and honeybee stewardship in Hawaii and other island nations. Our eco-friendly methods are directly sowing the seeds for a sustainable future in products that are pure, natural and organic.
My goal with Aloha Farms Café is to provide the best island nation coffees to coffee lovers around the world. Why? Because coffee – and all of the other completely natural products we offer – are the best that our planet has. And knowing that I am consuming the world’s purest, healthiest foods makes me feel like I’m doing something good for myself and the planet.
My favorite quotes I like to live by include:
1. Do onto others as you would like to be done to yourself (Matthew 6:12)
2. You don’t know your ass from a hole in the ground
3. Lastly, I like the 7 “P”s: Prior, Proper, Planning, Prevents, Piss, Pore, Performance
Alright. Time to suit up and get brewing.
Mahalo Nui Loa,
Matteo
